But who could like to return to old generic content and procedurally generated maps in Morrowind's engine? To experience Arena/Daggerfall, simply play vanilla games or Daggerfall Unity. Or to port some cool Daggerfall game mechanics to Morrowind.

I only can imagine a mod to rebuild Daggerfall with a map 1000 times smaller, but totally handcrafted and with 100 times more content and uniqueness. And there isn't modder enough interested to move from little but very unique world in Morrowind (for me clearly the most unique worldbuilding ever) and to return to large randomly generated worlds. There isn't a Dagerfall ported to Morrowind by a mod, for the simple reason that the scope and focus in both games is very different. But of course the modders would need some extra tool to "auto generate" repeated terrain or locations as Arena and Daggerfall developers used in these games design. You can create a world of the size of Africa in Morrowind's engine if you want. In Morrowind vanilla construction set, there are many options to randomize content, and in there isn't the game world limit that Oblivion or Skyrim's engine have. Is not the same that No Man's Sky, because both games, but specially Daggerfall, aren't randomly generated or change in every gameplay, but pre-designed worlds with fixed geography, locations or game content even if there are some randomization in loot or enemies and an automatic world creation (in development but not in player perspective). The first two ES games were procedurally "designed". On the contrary, with Morrowind engine could be possible to build Arena and Daggerfall perfectly.

On the other hand, there aren't Daggerfall/Arena mods to play with Morrowind engine, but in my opinion, this is not because some limitation in the engine as some user suggested. Will be highly moddable too, so I think there will be a Daggerfall modding (modest) renaissance soon. It's wip, but very advanced and promising. There is a remastered Daggerfall project, this: Skywind and Skyblivion were doomed from the start. The guys working on those projects back in the heyday had no idea what they were doing, and now there's like ten decent guys left who work on it every now and then. Skyblivion, on the other hand, seems to have been almost completely abandoned. If anything will come out, it'll be years. Until OpenMW 1.0 comes out, that is.Īs for Skywind and Skyblivion. 1 Daggerfall (161,600 km) The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is the largest game in the Elder Scrolls franchise by a massive margin when ignoring Arena. Morroblivion is good, but Morrowind is still the best way to play Morrowind.

The main team was ambitious and knew what they were doing, but they've pretty much disappeared now. There are two or three people who are still making updates, but they have nothing to do with the main team who worked on the project. However, it is buggy, and due to some limitations, not everything has been implemented and realized. The game is playable, and so are pretty much all the quests.
